SingleStore Database Administrator / Engineer Consultant
Description
The Polaris program aims to provide holistic architectural strategy for the post trade and realtime risk/monitoring plant, as well as standardize the integration between the critical low-latency trading path and post execution plant. It represents the north-star Front-to-Back architecture optimizing for scalability, resiliency, recoverability, manageability, simplicity, performance, time-2-market, and cost.
The team implements, manages and operates modern platform as a service for High Availability and Resiliency, modern Observability, Configuration, Orchestration, Authentication, and Logging.
We are seeking a hands-on SingleStore Database Administrator / Engineer developer with track-record of building large scale distributed systems.

Core Responsibilities
•
Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain SingleStore database systems.
•
Data ingestion: Manage SingleStore Pipelines for streaming and load utility for batch data ingestion.
•
Performance Tuning: Optimize queries, indexes, and database design for speed and scalability.
•
Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Set up monitoring tools, diagnose performance issues, and resolve database-related problems.
•
Backup & Recovery: Implement and test disaster recovery strategies and backup plans. Security: Apply database security best practices, manage user roles, and ensure compliance.
•
Automation: Develop scripts (often in Python) to automate routine DBA tasks. Collaboration: Work with developers, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to ensure smooth integration.
Required Skills
•
SingleStore Expertise: Good understanding of SingleStore’s (or other columnar stores, such as ClickHouse, Snowflake) distributed architecture, pipelines, and query engine.
•
Knowledge of columnstore vs rowstore optimizations: and how to balance them in Single
•
StoreStrong SQL proficiency: writing complex queries, stored procedures, and optimizing query performance.
•
Scripting: Python and Unix (Shell) skills for automation.
Desired Skills
•
Experience with other RDBMS platforms: such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or DB2.
•
High Availability: Knowledge of clustering, replication, and failover strategies.
•
Backup & Disaster Recovery: Proven experience in backup/restore processes.
•
Security: Familiarity with encryption, access controls.
•
Cloud Knowledge: Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP for cloud-based deployments is a plus.
Soft Skills
•
Strong problem-solving, communication, sense of ownership, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
•
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
•
Experience: 3–5+ years as a DBA, with at least 1–2 years on SingleStore (or similar distributed SQL systems).
